When YouTube was created, it was a place where creatives could post anything that they wanted to share with people on the internet. As of 2016 however, there were more than 5.3 million beauty videos on YouTube. There are more than 45,000 YouTube channels that people can visit. Main names include Jeffree Star, James Charles, Tati Westbrook and many more. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beauty_YouTuber)

Michelle Phan is considered to be an early pioneer for the beauty space, joined YouTube in 2006, right when things were starting to evolve, ad space was starting and becoming an “influencer” or a “YouTuber” was an active profession for some. Michelle Phan has since stopped posting videos online, but still has her own beauty brand.

Since then, the industry has grown; beauty influencers and YouTubers have created a new following. As you can watch through social media pages, these influencers sometimes partner with ads, which is a great source of income. Influencers also put out their own merchandise and apparel that viewers can purchase, or they team up with brands to do collaborations.

The most recent beauty drama is between YouTuber James Charles and Tati Westbrook, showing a public feud between them on YouTube. Through a series of events that Tati was frustrated about, she posted a 44-minute video explaining why her and James Charles will not be friends. Since then, James Charles posted a video on his personal account, apologizing and telling the truth.

Although being in the beauty industry looks like fun, there is a lot of drama, publicity, and stress that comes with YouTube and being an influencer.
